Iwhen we were young and nive we took the yrics to heart and later in life we learn that the singer puking EVERY show during the first or second song has nothing to do with stage fright...to that end

who remembers the code of honor OATH....."never desert your comrade in need in danger or in trouble.."HONOR" ...finish with be true to your own goals its better to die than to live a fuckin LIE better to DIE"

well my friends...the last line is orgionial but the rest oif that song is tthe fricken OATH of scientology" what do all you think aboput that and this topic in general..

do you think code of honor actually knew about scientology??
or just found the words and thought they sounded cool?

For some reason the group I hung out with never liked the band. Everyone always said it was just some rick kid whose dad bought him everything. They seemed to try to hard to be cool. WE always called the band Wad of Honor. I lost a friend to Scientology he is still fucked up and into it. His whole family has a history of mental problems. I think this made it easier for them to engulf into the cult.

Does it really matter if they stole the lyrics from scientology...I was 13/14 years old when I first heard it and thought that it was cool as hell. I always like the sic pleasure/code of honor album. It's still sitting in my basement somewhere.

I never realized that about the lyrics?
Perhaps cuz I ain't into that sci fi religion?
I would hope if the lyric was lifted they did so because they agreed
with the statement. I think you can find that kernel of truth in certain
religions and philosophies but you don't have to buy the whole concept.

I had the SP/COH album on a shitty casette back in the day.
It was one of my faves back then. I also have a Target Video
comp from back then with both them Flipper and Black Flag
on it. I need to pull that out and watch it. It's been awhile.

I always figured it was lifted from some kind of old boy scout or military handbook.

Maybe Johnathan just wanted all of us lost little lambs to be free of the Seitans. I mean, who wants to be host to invisible ghosts from outer space that make us unhappy?

Maybe he just wanted to deliver the technology to us, so that we could be happy like Tom Cruise?

A nice thought... but no thanks.

That is pretty creepy, but before we start wondering whether we were all brainwashed by COH or if we need to stop listening to their records,

First, isn't it possible that COH just heard those phrases somewhere and thought they sounded cool and put them in a song? I mean, I like SP/COH as much as anyone, but most of those lyrics don't cry out to be taken seriously ("Let's kill the MUNI driver," "I got herpes").

Second, most of us are rightfully suspicious of Scientology now, but then (whenever "then" is), we were all attracted to movements and philosophies that weren't mainstream or for whatever reason pissed off whoever our authority figures were. Most of the people I knew thought out-there/alternative political and spiritual subcultures (and their spokespeople)were interesting (the occult, Crowley, dada, Ayn Rand, Manson, Synanon, Anton LaVey, Krishna, TM, anarchy, Nazis, situationism, etc. etc.). I mean, if punk had a motto, it was, "We love things other people hate."

I can't tell you how many hours I spent taking the Scientology personality test - mostly to get out of the rain while bumming around UN Plaza and not least of all for the free coffee and cookies, but also to try to get myself the wackiest test results possible.
