Looking for old pals

I lived in Sausalito in 79-81 and was only into the Punk scene in that last year, so even if I ran around a lot in that short time, I don't know how many people remember me. I recall having thought up the name Johnny Holocaust, but I'm not sure if I ever really used it much. I was probably just John. I used to wear a suede jacket with a tear across the shoulder patched with a long roe of safety pins and a red Anarchist A and I was blond, quite young (14-15) and cute - all conditions which have since passed.

First of all, I was sorry to read here about Denz passing. We weren't the firmest of friends, but he did live in my bed room for a week once.

I attended Tamalpais High School, had a huge crush on Mitzi (and am assuming that she's the Mitzi here on Tribes - we got in touch five or six years ago, but then I lost her addy in a computer crash). My partners in Punk (although I think we first bonded over D&D) at Tam were Peter and Jonathan; Peter was tall and slim and Jonathan quite short. I don't remember any last names or other biographical details, sadly. Peter lived with his mom first in Mill Valley, then Strawberry. Jonathan also lived in Mill Valley.

I was back at Tam in 97, trying to get access to their records, but it turns out they keep nothing but the names of graduates and I don't think any one of them stayed in school. If anyone can point me in the right direction to find either one or both of them, I would be ecstatic. The very last thing I heard about Jonathan was in 82 or so when he had grown a beard and become a Metal head or something. Not sure about that, but so the rumor went.

I was also friends with Jennifer Seid, nicknamed HCB for Hard Cold Bitch. Last I heard she married "the bass player from Toiling Midgets", but contact with some TM members hasn't made that any more clear.

For a while I dated a girl called Karen and lived with her in the East Bay, maybe Oakland. She shared the apartment with a girl named Ayisha. I think Karen and Ayisha are the main girls on the back on the Eastern Front compilation (with the aforementioned Toiling Midgets on it) - I haven't seen the sleeve in years, though. If anyone has a scan of that, I would be very grateful indeed. I seem to remember Rob Noxious (or possibly Bob Noxious) hanging out there with us, too. She drove a VW convertible that would often be crammed full with 8-9 punks going to after parties.

My main claim to fame is having been painted red on stage while Flipper were playing at either 10th St Hall or Barrington Hall (which one was an old church?) and eventually being kicked off stage by Bruce Loose. Well, that, and being Jello Biafra's guide to Stockholm when he came over here, but that's another story entirely.

I also remember visiting Josh when he lived in a warehouse and riding my Flipper skateboard in the vast area. He hated me, though, because I was one of the younger kids who just approriated the MCP DFA slogan from him and Frank (I think there was a third iconic Marin County Punk to us youngsters, but his name eludes me). Peter and I stayed over at Frank's house one night after a DOA gig at Club Foot where they'd sneaked us under-agers in through the back door, as I recall. Another thread here mentioned knowing where they are, so I assume they're in this tribe...or not?

But the one person I would most like to reconnect with is Leslie. She was twice my age (28!) and I remember seeing her at the Flamin' Groovies/Young Marble Giants gig before I met her working in an art supply store in Sausalito. She quickly took me under her wing, always letting me stay at her apartment (near/in the Tenderloin?) when I couldn't make it back to Marin. I remember that her building had an Egyptian/Scarab motif in the decorations, but that's about it. She meant a great deal to me, so any clues there would - again - be much appreciated. Dark hair, curvy and not all that Hardcore, but more New/No Wavey in style.

Other people I recall: D.O.G., Eric (whose dad was a famous chef in France or Belgium), that blonde girl who lived with a brunette right next to Target Video and many others whose names have slipped away long, long ago.

Found Peter and Jonathan in a pic posted by Frank: sfbpunk.tribe.net/photos/e9...bcd7a02e25

My two best friends from 1980-81, and I haven't seen them since then, until tonight (it's late here in Sweden). 27 years...

Anyone remember last names for these guys at all?

Hi John - I don't know if we ever met but we probably did 'cause I was hanging with Peter (Werner) and Jonathan and Frank (Perticone) during that time. Peter has been here on Tribe under PGW (he's listed as one of my "friends" if you want to check out his page) and Frank is on here too... I hung out with Cheryl (Frank's GF at the time) and Juneko and Cyndie from Novato.

I had Peter at my house a couple of times in the last year for parties, and he's doing well, but haven't seen Jonathan since the early 90's when he was on a super great scholarship to get a science degree at a really good school, but I don't remember the name. Juneko would remember and she's on here too.

I will try to contact Peter on his personal email and see if he wants to contact you thru tribe.

      Hope you are well...

Thanks, Jody. Yeah, Frank pointed me right in private messages. We probably did brush shoulder ssomewhere along the line, but I was around so briefly that I probably didn't register on too many people's radars. But Peter, Jonathan and I kind of went Punk together, so I'm thinking that they'll at LEAST remember me.

Reading through people's messages here I'm a little sad that I didn't come back to the US in the fall of 81 as I was supposed to, because I would have liked to delve a bit deeper into the SF punk scene than I ended up doing (the Swedish one was - pardon to any Swepunks reading this - pretty pathetic by comparison). But reading about the various drug casualties I'm also kind of glad I got out of it before I got in any deeper than I did - Sweden was awful on that count as well, with most drugs costing ten or twenty times as much as in SF, and that just wasn't worth it to me.

I don't regret too many decisions I've made in life, but that one still kinda burns, to be honest.

Hi there. I took that photo. : )

We must have met, but I can't quite remember. I dated Frank from '80-'84.

The 3rd "iconic punk" you mention must be Jiri. Frank, Jiri, and Josh were the triple threat also known as Fitz.

      Welcome back to your roots!

Thanks, Cheryl. I've had a whale of a time trying to get hold of Peter, which is frustrating as all hell; to come so close after all these years, but then be stumped. He's not responding through here (nor does he seem to have been on) nor through wikipedia and his sfedu email addy is invalid. And he's not listed in the phone book. *sigh*

Finding that picture got me all excited and emotional - I mean, I hadn't even seen the guys in nearly three decades, so finding it really hit home for me,,,and then nothing.

So, any clues as to where I can look further would be MUCH appreciated.

John: I haven't seen Peter in a couple months (we went to a punk show in SF.) But I just sent him an email, with a link to your Tribe profile and note that you're looking to reconnect.

    Hi Johny H!
I totally remember you, it's Michele (Doy). I too was a Marin punk, but an slightly older generation than you, we would all ride the GGT to shows. I hung out with the Marin old schoolers like Julie and Judy (san anselmo) along with the Novato Snypers (a couple who've already responded to your queries re: the Fitz and Peter) as well Eric Meade, Ricky Puke (RIP) and all the Central/West Marin hardcore freaks. The Fitz were and exclusive lot and one could never be sure if they hated you or just liked fucking with people's insecurities. I was also sort of an honorary member of the EB Scum and practically lived with Karen, Aisha and Aileen. Didn't Karen go over to sweden to visit you in like '82? Anyway I'de lost touch with those lovely ladies by the mid 80's too, if you connect send 'em my way, they were good people. Rob Noxious (Bob was an SF Punk and sang for the F-k Ups) and Sam MacBride used to rock it with us on Piedmont Ave too. Those we're fun and Crazy times. I actually think the Mitzi you speak of isn't here on Tribe, you mean the gal whose counter part was Jackie from Sleezalito ...they hung with those dudes from San Rafael, the Ratz. Unfortunately I have no further info on anyone than has already been offered. Just wanted to let you know I definitely remember you and have wondered about you and all the others as well. Good to know you are out there. Peace, Michele

Hi, Michele! Good to hear from someone else who remembers Karen and them. No, she never came to visit me - in fact, I don't think we kept in touch after I decded to stay in Sweden. I spoke to Peter a few times and Jenny, but that was it.

Any last names to go with Karen and/or Aisha? Jenny's last name was Seid, and there are only a few of those in the Bay Area, so I'm thinking of calling around until I get a hit on a relative of some kind.

But no one seems to remember Leslie... Ah, well.

I've been racking my brain trying to remember Karen's last name...All I can come up with is that I'm pretty sure it started with an "S," however Aisha's sur name was Kahn (not sure if that's the correct spelling).... I'm sorry for the lame response but my memory is great for faces and fun times not so good with names. There were a few Leslies on the scene, not sure which one you're looking for...

    Hi John,

I've been hugely busy and out of touch with people, plus I don't check my Tribe page regularly. (I just reset it to notify me by email if somebody contacts me here, though.)

I've been in and out of college for years now, though I've finally decided to put my technical skills to good use and am training to be a microscopy and scientific imaging specialist.

As to one of the people you've been looking for, I think you'll find this post that I wrote last year interesting:

    Good to hear from you!

Yeah, I loved D.O.G./Deogee too. I read in an interview a few years back with the Lewd that he died of a heroin overdose. I was crushed. Can anyone else confirm this?

Have you looked thru Ginger Coyote's "whatever happed to" web page? It's not organized, you have to scroll through a list of entries, but if someone died, it's usually mentioned there (as are the "I'm still alive!" posts.)

Yes, it's true. I'm good friends with his ex-girlfriend, Tina, and she confirmed it.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Several years ago I saw bartender who looked exactly like Deogee back in the day (which was impossible because 25 years have gone by) and it got me thinking about him, so I did an internet search & that's when I found out.

What ever happened to Mark Bramwell? Blond. Used to hang out with Deogee sometimes.

Welcome to the tribe, John. Sorry this email's so late coming.

Our paths have probably crossed at some point. I'm from Marin, used to be in Snipers, & hung out with Fitz.

The Jonathan you speak of who lived with Peter is Jonathan Forman. He was one of my very best friends for many years. Unfortunately, I lost touch with him about 10 years ago & have been looking for him ever since, which is difficult given the fact that he has virtually no internet footprint (probably due to the constraints of his job).

I believe he lives in the south bay--Mountain View or somewhere there abouts. He's a chemist--got his PhD from Cal Tech 16 or so years ago. All you're likely to find on him on the internet are his race results. He races motorcycles often down at Laguna Seca and has been for the last 15 years plus or minus.

The Mindy you speak of isn't on here. She now goes by the name Montgomery McFate & is a Defense Dept. analyst and teaches anthropology at Johns Hopkins University.
